SC Magazine Recognizes Cyber Security Technologies
as an Industry Innovator for 2009
The Award pertains to Mac Marshal™,
a powerful and unique software tool
for forensic analysis of Mac OS X-based systems
Eden Prairie, MN January 15, 2010 (Business Wire) Cyber Security Technologies announced today that it has been recognized by SC Magazine as an Industry Innovator for 2009 in the category of computer forensic tools. The award is in recognition of the company’s Mac Marshal™, a powerful and unique software tool that automates the forensic analysis of computers running the Mac OS X operating system.
According to John Metil, the president and CEO of Cyber Security Technologies, “The increasingly popularity of Apple Mac hardware provides new challenges for forensic investigators. We identified a void in advanced investigative technology that serves this market, and are very pleased that SC Magazine has recognized our innovative solution with this award.”
“The forensic tools sector has been a tough one for the three years we have been doing the innovator issue and this year was no exception,” stated Peter Stephenson of SC Magazine. Continued Stephenson, “Each year we look carefully at the giants in the field for signs of big leaps of innovation, and while we do find some movement, it usually is one of the lesser-known lights that sneaks around the corner and beckons us to have a closer look. That is exactly what happened with this year's selection. Cyber Security Technologies recognized a serious problem set in computer forensics and built a creative solution.”
Computer systems based upon Apple’s Mac hardware and OS X software represent an increasing percentage of computers which require forensic investigations. Few tools are available today to help investigators in the Mac environment. Most forensic investigators are trained in Windows forensics which is different in many material ways from Mac forensics. Mac Marshal is an advanced solution that dramatically advances the technology for forensic investigations of OS X-based systems.
Mac Marshal takes a unique approach to forensics on an OS X-based system. It greatly enhances investigative productivity by automatically extracting and analyzing forensic data from the operating system (for instance, by identifying the presence of multiple OSs on the target) and from OS X-specific applications including Mail, Safari, iChat, QuickTime Player, iPod/iTunes and Address Book.
